Exploitation of corporate and government resources is on the rise and when I speak of Exploitation I refer to exploits of resources that are controlled or managed by technology in some fashion or another. The reason for the rise in exploits of these resources is not because such systems cannot be secured but instead because government's and corporate entities alike are making improper decisions when it comes to risk assessment and mitigation.
Both government and corporate entities need to have a combination of solid proven solutions that mitigate the risk on a hardware and software level and also need consulting on top as a layer of additional security to prevent social engineering based attacks. One of my favorite reads has been the "The Art of Deception" by Kevin Mitnick and it isn't because I personally know the author that I am referencing this book but instead it is because it discusses some practical knowledge that a lot of companies and governments should be looking at.
I too am personally working on two books right now in part I was inspired to start writing by a good friend of mine Cara Bruce a well recognized author and also in part by Kevin Mitnick. I am working on a autobiography of sorts and a book on threat mitigation. The autobiography will cover my life and provide details of my exploits and will also cover a rather undisclosed event when in 2003 the Federal Bureau of Investigation and U.S. Secret Service investigated me for the release of the SoBig virus. The second book will be a practical guide with detail information on how to prevent modern day attacks and threats from causing losses.
Kevin Mitnick's book was rather unique in it covered territory that was left alone in the past although I do not feel it covered as much ground as it could have and I intend to expand on the areas covered in his book and also have several other more important areas that are not yet covered well in existing texts.
I will have more updates on the books progress as work continues I currently already have a publisher and marketing agency to handle the book and right now I am on a holiday hiatus from all work until next week sometime when I well head home to resume my work and studies.
